Music
“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing.” Psalm 100:1-2.
At Christ Clarion, we love to make music together as part of our worship of God. We sing with enthusiasm and welcome all those who will share their special musical gifts with us.
The cornerstone of our formal music program is the choir, which participates in the worship services from September through May. Open to all adults and teenagers, the choir enjoys singing a wide range of choral music, including the classics, spirituals, folk songs and songs of praise. The choir generally performs a major work each year, often featuring soloists and accompanied by instrumentalists from the Eastman School of Music. Recent major works include John Leavitt’s Missa Festiva in 2006, Mozart’s Coronation Mass in 2004 (in partnership with another church) and Schubert’s Mass No. 2 in 2003. The choir is directed by Jill Long, our Director of Music Ministries and accompanied by Anna Maimine, our pianist / organist. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings before the service.
We are also fortunate to have a number of members and friends that regularly share their musical talents with us as part of the worship services. Our youth are encouraged to perform on their instruments or sing as they feel comfortable, and we’ve enjoyed watching them blossom in confidence and ability over the years. The children sing songs they have learned in Sunday School for the congregation. Adults will play their instruments to support the choir or make their own offering of music. Youth and adult instrumentalists come together to play for the Christmas Eve services. We welcome students from the Eastman School of Music to share their wonderful talents and worship with us.
Ask anyone who attends Christ Clarion – both participants and listeners are enriched as we worship God through beautiful music.
